Hammock-Wise Philosophy

I have been hammock camping for several years now and consider myself a novice. Every time I venture out I learn something new. That is one of the beauties of my hobby - I never stop learning from friends, be they novices or expert.

Many people will ask "What hammock should I buy?" or "Which hammock is best?". Several people on online forums scramble to give their opinion on their favourite hammocks, citing their reasons why it is the best hammock on the market. Unfortunately, many of these responses are from well meaning but ill-advised and often ignorant hammockers who have a sub conscious bias towards their particular hammock. This is because it either works best for them or they simply haven't tried any other.

The truth is, no one can tell you which hammock you will find best for your needs. They can only offer advice. The best way to ascertain which best suits you is to go along to a local meet and try them.
Any hammock you get you are sure to love. For me sleep is important and that's why I recommend trying some first.

Many people will tell you the merits of doing so having tried and seen various hammocks before deciding which they prefer and for a multitude of reasons. Ease of set up, comfort, size, weight, budget etc.

Anything that takes you off the ground is wonderful but rather like selecting a mattress it's not a universal thing, everyone has a different idea of what's best.

It's not until you try different ones that you know which best suits your own personal needs and circumstances.
